Massage therapy is great for relieving stress, anxiety, and even physical pain. People who choose to augment their healthcare regimen with routine massages not only get to enjoy a few relaxing hours at the spa but also experience the numerous benefits that it offers.
Here is a list of the benefits of getting a massage and why you should get it regularly.

#1 - Alleviates Anxiety, Depression, and Fatigue
Massage therapy has proven to help reduce anxiety, eliminate depression, and alleviate fatigue. A study reported that patients who were suffering from anxiety and depression felt much happier and more relaxed after getting a massage. Moreover, the study even showed that massage also helped lower their stress levels.

#2 - Improves Posture
Sitting in front of a computer for an 8-hour work shift can cause tension in your back and neck muscles. This can eventually lead to poor posture. Massage therapy helps to loosen up and relax the muscles, allowing your body to align itself in its pain-free, natural posture.

#3 - Enhances Sleep
Massage not only allows people to sleep soundly but also increases serotoninwhich is very beneficial for people with insomnia. Moreover, experts say that massages promote relaxation and improve the sleep of those undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.
Lastly, research conducted at the University of Warwick found that massages even help infants feel less stressed, cry less, and sleep more.

#4 - Boosts Focus
Many people have trouble paying attention in a meeting for more than 15 minutes. This is usually because their heart rate is quite high and needs to be lowered.
If you are struggling with the same problem, getting a massage can improve your ability to focus and increase your attention span. A massage will slow down your nervous system, and effectively lower your heart rate, which can ultimately improve your ability to focus.

#5 - Relieves Headaches
Regular massages allow your body to relax and feel less stressed. They typically work by relaxing your muscle spasms and trigger points. This significantly reduces your chances of getting tension headaches and even migraine attacks.
Moreover, massages that concentrate on the head, neck, and shoulders can even reduce the discomfort and pain associated with tension headaches and migraines.

#6 - Stimulates Immunity
A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that regular massages can stimulate the production of white blood cells in a person’s body. These white blood cells play an important role in protecting the body from diseases. Experts even claim that massages help to improve the immune system of individuals suffering from HIV.

#7 - Eases Muscle Pain
Massage therapy increases and improves blood circulation, which is extremely helpful in easing the pain that comes with sore muscles. In fact, according to the Canadian Medical Association Journal, massage therapy is one of the most effective treatments for alleviating back pain.

Now that you know the benefits of getting a massage, make sure to book one for yourself! The best thing about massage therapy is that unlike medications, there are no side effects to it. So, not only will you feel good, but you will also improve your health and quality of life.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Doing Lymphatic Drainage Massages After Your Surgery

Lymphatic drainage has grown to become incredibly popular in the past few years mainly due to the increase in various cosmetic procedures. Whether it’s a tummy tuck, liposuction, or Brazilian butt lift, a lymphatic drainage massage is one of the best things for your post-surgery recovery!

The Importance of an Efficient Lymphatic System
A functioning lymphatic system is integral to your body’s ability to filter foreign substances, regenerate tissues, drain fluids, and maintain a healthy immune system. The lymphatic system is made of complex nodes and lymph vessels to achieve these goals. The lymph vessels carry proteins, fatty acids, hormone and immune cells, and toxins to be processed by the lymph nodes. So, when your body is under any stress, fatigue or is recovering from surgery, this process slows down. In order to speed up this process, an increasing number of doctors are recommending their patients to opt for a lymphatic drainage massage after surgery.

So, what is a lymphatic drainage massage exactly?

Also known as manual lymph drainage, a lymphatic drainage massage originated in Germany. The purpose of this massage is to treat lymphedema, which is swelling that is caused by accumulated fluid. This fluid often accumulates after the removal of lymph nodes that happen during mastectomy surgeries. Moreover, lymphedema can also be caused by various other conditions and often results in swelling and pain. A lymphatic drainage massage is now used to help speed up their post-surgery recovery process.

Why Get a Lymphatic Drainage Massage after Surgery?
Here are a few benefits of getting a lymphatic drainage massage after surgery.

1.   Helps Move Lymph Fluid:
Your lymphatic system experiences considerable trauma during surgery, making it difficult for it to perform its job properly. Getting a lymphatic drainage massage is the best way to get the stagnant lymph fluid moving manually to decrease the chances of infection. Moreover, it helps your post-surgery bruises heal faster by transporting cells away from your lymph nodes faster than usual.

2.   Reduces Post-Surgery Swelling:
Experiencing some post-surgery swelling is an essential part of the inflammatory healing process and is quite normal. However, prolonged or excessive swelling can be rather problematic as they lead to more pain and increase healing times. A lymphatic drainage massage helps you get rid of any unnecessary swelling, easing your pain and speeding up your healing process.

3.   Helps Get Rid of Foreign Fluids and Substances:
One of the best benefits of a lymphatic drainage massage is that it helps get rid of excess toxins, water, bacteria, metabolic waste, and other substances from your tissues.

4.   Reduces Pain and Stress:
Since a lymphatic drainage massage reduces the pressure of lymph fluid around your nerves, it helps in relieving pain and discomfort. The precise hand movements during the massage help reduce the pain signals sent to your brain, reducing pain greatly. A lymphatic drainage massage also helps relax your sympathetic nervous system while improving your immune system, helping relieve stress and improving chances to fight off an infection.

5.   Prevents Scar-Tissue:
When left undisturbed, lymph fluid tends to solidify and forms into scar tissue. The area where this lymph fluid accumulates starts feeling uneven and lumpy. Getting a lymphatic drainage massage helps get rid of the lymph fluid, minimizing the chances of scar formation.

A lymphatic drainage massage is a very gentle treatment that you can receive just a few days after your surgery to speed up your recovery process. Despite the surgical procedure you have gotten, you might want to consider investing in MLD!

Why Vaginal Health Is Important and Why You Should Not Be Embarrassed About It

Picture
While even in this modern age it remains a taboo, vaginal health is an extremely crucial aspect in maintaining a woman’s overall health.  Your vagina, like any other body part, is subject to various infections and problems. Many factors such as clothing, diet, exercise, medications, or even increased stress can lead to problems down there.

What is a Healthy Vagina?
A healthy vagina tends to be more acidic. This helps maintain a healthy environment that fosters the growth of good bacteria called lactobacilli. Moreover, this also encourages normal vaginal secretions. Lactobacilli are great for helping fight off bad microorganisms, helping your vagina maintain a pH level of 4.5 or less.

Factors that Affect the Health of Your Vagina
In order to be healthy, the pH balance of your vagina should be more acidic. However, there are many different factors that can disrupt the pH balance of your vagina, leading to a negative impact on its health. Some of those factors are as follows:
  • Periods
  • Tampons and pads
  • Intercourse
  • Hygiene soaps
  • Perfumes
  • Stress
  • Hormonal changes in pregnancy
  • Menopause
  • Loss of estrogen to the vagina

Why is Vaginal Health Important?
Here are a few reasons why you need to maintain normal pH levels to keep your vagina healthy.

To Prevent Vaginal Infections and Diseases
When the pH levels of your vagina get too high, it results in an overgrowth of bacteria. This leads to a weird odor or smell, vaginal irritation, and gray, watery discharge known as bacterial vaginosis. Moreover, you can also experience a vaginal yeast infection due to various other factors including itching, vaginal irritations, and a white clumpy discharge.
These diseases can impact your overall health and wellbeing. Therefore, you should make sure that you keep your vagina clean and healthy.

To Maintain a Good Sex Life
Good vaginal health is vital for maintaining a good sex life. Bad vaginal health such as abnormal vaginal discharge or a weird fishy smell can make you lose your self-confidence, keeping you from getting intimate with your partner.

Why Should You Not Be Embarrassed About Your Vaginal Health?
Talking about sex organs has been a taboo for the longest time, which needs to change in today’s era. Your vagina, just like any other body part, deserves proper care and attention. There is nothing to be embarrassed about when talking about your vaginal health as it can lead to severe problems such as serious infections that can last you a lifetime. Moreover, if you are too shy at informing your gynecologist about your vaginal issues, they will never be able to diagnose serious problems such as cervical cancer in case you are suffering from them.

All in all, it is crucial for you to make efforts to maintain normal pH levels for a healthy vagina. Moreover, don’t be shy or embarrassed to confide in your gynecologist about any symptoms you are  experiencing to prevent vaginal infections and diseases.

How Often Should You Get Facials?

11/3/2020

Comments

Picture
There is nothing quite like getting a relaxing facial. That clear, smooth, and soft skin you get afterward makes you instantly wonder how long before you can book another appointment. However, facials can strip your skin if you go several times a month.
Thus, the question arises, how often should you get facials then? Well, the answer isn't that simple. It largely depends on your skin type, your skin goals, and what kind of facials you want to get.

Skin Type
Your skin type plays a huge role in determining how often you should get facials. People with a certain skin type require frequent, visits while others don't. People with acne-prone and oily skin should get two facials a month, while individuals with sensitive skin should get a facial once in two months. If you have clear skin, you should get one monthly facial.
Individuals with problematic skin, such as acne or hyper-pigmentation, can benefit from getting a  facial every two to three weeks in order to help control their breakouts. Once their skin improves, they can go once a month.

Skin Concerns
Your aesthetician determines which facial suits you and how often you should get facials based on your skin concerns. For example, for acne treatments, you should be coming in more frequently than for anti-aging treatments.

Type of Facial
There are several different facials for different skin types and skincare goals. Consequently, the type of facial impacts how often you should get them. LED facials, chemical peels, and Oxygen facials can be done once a week. However, Hydrafacials are recommended once every three months.

The General Rule
Your skin regenerates every 28 days. This means that after dead cells have been removed, it takes an estimated 28 days for new skin cells to regenerate in the deepest layer of your skin and reach the surface. By the time these new cells reach the surface of your skin, they lose their nucleus and die. As a result, they are ready to be renewed through a facial.
Due to this reason, it is recommended that you get a facial every three to 4 weeks.

Remember, what works for others might not work for you. Therefore, you must do your research to understand your skin type, skin concerns, and skin goals. Your aesthetician will likely recommend what type of facial is best for you, and based on that, they will recommend how often you should get facials.
The general rule for facials is to get them once every 3 to 4 weeks. Frequent facials can be detrimental to your skin and might consequently damage it.
So, please remember not to overdo it!
